Room for big ideas! The 820 offers substantially more space than other sewing machines. The 400mm (15 inch) extended arm and over 300mm (12 inches) to the right of the needle provide a huge space for spreading out and manoeuvring your project.

Jumbo bobbin

BERNINA Dual Feed
Reliable feed of hard to handle materials! Working with knits, velvet, ribbon or multiple layers? The BERNINA 820’s built in Dual Feed can be engaged when needed to feed the fabric from both above and below. The Dual Feed System offers optimum visibility and superb manoeuvrability. Simply flip up and tuck away when not required.
Fully automatic threading
Simple threading, automatically! The BERNINA 820 has its own unique system for taking the thread through the machine and the needle in a single operation. Because it’s done quickly and automatically, it leaves more time to focus on the fun side of sewing and embroidering.
Optimum thread supply system
The exclusive multi-spool holder keeps large, medium and small cones at the ready. The built-in vertical holders and telescopic guides ensure beautifully smooth and even thread release. The bobbin winder is located on the front of the 820 for easy access and it even lets you select speed and amount of fill.

Stitch selection
With over 350 stitch patterns and sewing stitches plus characters, a total of over 770 imaginative stitches – over 100 of which were developed exclusively for the BERNINA 8 Series – are available to you to combine however you like.
Quilting
The exclusive BERNINA BSR system makes free-motion quilting much easier with beautiful even stitches at whatever speed you work. Built-in Dual Feed allows for smooth feeding of all the layers of your quilt. The clearance between presser foot and stitch plate is adjustable up to 7mm, letting you easily reposition thicker layers with the presser foot in hover position.
Memory option
You can customise stitch patterns by changing stitch width/length or tension and store these changes in either of two personal programs, ready to use again when needed. The stitch memory function lets you combine and record up to 50 stitch patterns, letters and numbers in up to 30 separate drawers.
Appliqué and patchwork
A wealth of stitch designs including stippling and feathering, specially designed for appliqué and patchwork projects, are available for you to choose from.
Customised buttonholes
As well as on-screen setting of the buttonhole length, the slit width can also be changed – from 0.1mm to 2mm – to accommodate any type of button you may be using. The buttonholes can then be perfectly repeated as often as you wish.
Tapering
Team your creativity with new techniques. With tapering, the beginning and end of stitch patterns taper to a point. Choose from four different basic stitch angles for even more creativity.
Needle chart
You can tell the BERNINA 820 which needle is inserted by selecting from the built-in needle chart. On starting this information appears automatically as a quick reminder, letting you focus on the creative side of things.
